Embedding a Pitch Deck
As an investor, sharing pitch decks is a common task, often critical for decision-making and collaboration. This guide provides an overview of how to create and share embeddable links for pitch decks across some of the most popular platforms: Pitch.com, SlideShare, and Google Slides.
It's important to note that copying and pasting the URL from your browser for many of the platforms does not provide an embeddable link. You should follow the outlined process instead.
Pitch.com
Pitch.com is a user-friendly platform that allows you to create, collaborate, and share presentations. It provides the feature to generate embeddable links for presentations, which can be shared and viewed by anyone, even those who do not have a Pitch account.
To create an embeddable link on Pitch.com:
- Open your presentation and click on the "Share" button at the top right of the screen.
- In the dropdown, select "Embed".
- This will open a new panel with the embed code. You can copy this and paste it wherever you want to embed your presentation.
You cannot simply copy and paste the browser URL as an embeddable link; you must go through the "Share" button procedure.
Google Slides
Google Slides, part of the Google Drive suite, also enables you to share your presentations through an embeddable link. These can be placed in webpages, blog posts, or anywhere HTML is accepted.
To create an embeddable link on Google Slides:
Open your Google Slides presentation.
- Click on the "File" menu in the top left corner, then select "Publish to the web".
- In the new window, click on "Embed", then "Publish".
- A confirmation window will pop up; click "OK".
- An embed code will appear. You can copy this code and paste it wherever you wish to share your presentation.
Again, the URL in your browser cannot be used as an embeddable link.
DocSend
DocSend does not offer the option to create embeddable links for presentations or documents, so you would need to use one of the other platforms mentioned in this article.
Google Drive
For Google Drive, sharing any document, including presentations, is straightforward, but creating an embeddable link requires a few more steps.
After you've uploaded your file to Google Drive, right-click on the file and select "Get shareable link".
- Ensure the link is set to "Anyone with the link can view".
- Copy the shareable link.
- This link, however, is not embeddable. To convert it into an embeddable link, you need to extract the ID of the file from the URL (the string of characters between "d/" and "/view") and use it to create an embeddable URL: "https://drive.google.com/file/d/[your-ID-here]/preview".
Prezi
Prezi is a dynamic presentation tool that uses motion, zoom, and spatial relationships to make your presentations more engaging. It offers the functionality of sharing your work through an embeddable link.
To create an embeddable link on Prezi:
- Open your Prezi presentation.
- Click on the "Share" button at the bottom of the screen.
- In the options that appear, click "Embed".
- You will see a code that can be copied and embedded on any website or blog.
- Note that simply copying the URL from your browser does not serve as an embeddable link. You must go through the "Share" button procedure.
SlideShare
SlideShare is a hosting service where users can share files publicly or privately. These files can be embedded in websites or blogs, making it ideal for sharing presentations.
To create an embeddable link on SlideShare:
- Open your SlideShare presentation.
- Click on the "Share" button below the presentation.
- In the new dropdown menu, click on the "<>" symbol for the embed code.
- A new window will appear with the embed code. Copy this code and paste it wherever you wish to share your presentation.
- Remember, the URL from the browser is not an embeddable link.
Other platforms
Proprietary platforms like Microsoft PowerPoint do not natively support this feature. For PowerPoint presentations, you would need to upload your file to a platform that does support embed codes, like Google Drive, SlideShare, to share it as an embeddable link.
